The colour of your lure can decide whether you get bites. As a rule of thumb: natural colours in clear water and sunshine, bright colours in murky water or low light. Here are the key tips.
Clear water & sunshine
In clear water fish look closely. Natural, silvery finishes and perch or trout patterns work best. They imitate real baitfish discreetly and convincingly.
Murky water & low light
When the water is murky or the sky overcast, go for strong signal colours: firetiger, orange, chartreuse or red. They create more contrast and are easier for predators to spot.
Dawn, dusk & deep water
At twilight and in deep water, contrast and silhouette matter. Dark backs (black, blue) stand out against the brighter sky. Glittering and reflective patterns make use of the remaining light.
Understanding Vidra colour codes
Every Vidra finish has a colour code (e.g. BK, SFC, HP, GTR). Pick the colour you want directly on the product via the coloured swatches. It's best to build a small selection: one natural, one firetiger and one dark finish covers most situations.
Rules of thumb at a glance
Clear + sunny: natural, silver. Murky + overcast: firetiger, orange, chartreuse. Dawn/deep: dark, contrast, glitter. Don't be afraid to experiment – at the water, the fish decides.
